The SPARTAN Training and Mentorship Program (STAMP)matches potential mentors with mentees who share areas of interest from different institutions and geographic locations to provide the support, guidance, and encouragement that our budding researchers and academicians need. This program will not only help trainees and early career clinicians researchers interested in SpA navigate their career paths but also enable them to contribute meaningfully to the SpA community. In doing so, we hope to grow SpA research and clinical expertise in North America, strengthen the SPARTAN community, and ultimately improve the outcomes and quality of life for patients suffering from SpA. To achieve this, we will need the collective effort of the entire SPARTAN community. Together, we can bridge this gap and create a robust, sustainable pipeline of dedicated professionals committed to advancing the field of SpA research.
Purpose:
- Assist SPARTAN trainees and early career faculty (mentees) in advancing their professional goals, whether their focus is in research, education, or clinical care
- Increase active member engagement in SPARTAN, including but not limited to research and educational efforts
Focus:
- Mentees: Typically early career SPARTAN members, including but not limited to trainees. Mentees may self identify as early career, although for the pilot program, will be limited to trainees and faculty within five years of completion of their training.
- Mentors: Typically although not obligatorily senior SPARTAN members, interested in assisting others in specific areas of professional growth. Mentors must be SPARTAN members; may be at the Associate or Full level of membership.
- Examples of specific mentorship “areas” could include, but are not limited to:
- Research
- Broadly, clinical research (not including clinical trials), clinical trials, translational science, basic science
- If relevant, mentee can specify defined research areas, e.g. molecular genetics, mucosal immunity, pharmacoepidemiology
- If relevant, mentee can specify defined research tools, e.g. advanced clinical epidemiology methods, MR imaging, RNA-Seq
- Career development, including Academic Promotion
- Current literature review (e.g. 2-3 recent articles) Education: e.g. development of a specific program or curriculum in SpA
- Research
